In chapter 10 Holden appears to be insecure therefore he changes his shirt and goes down to the nightclub 'Lavender Room'. Before he leaves he remembers his sister, Phoebe, he gives a brief description of her which his similar to that of his brother - Allie - who he earlier mentions in the novel. She is intelligent for her age he says. When he's in the Lavender Room, where he his refused to be served alcohol by the waiter regardless of his height and grey hair. He then tries flirting with 3 older women, but they take no interest. After a while they start to annoy him by mentioning movie stars - as we know Holden isn't a big fan of Hollywood - they also start laughing at him. Holden lies to them about seeing a famous actor, but that doesn't go down well so he decides to leave.
